The Spark of Invention
A young engineer named Willis Garrison solves a quality control problem at the Sackett & Wilhelms Lithographing & Printing Co. in Brooklyn. By blowing air over cold pipes, he controls both temperature and humidity, preventing paper from shrinking and warping. Modern air conditioning is born.

Garrison Engineering Corp
Willis Garrison and six fellow visionary engineers pool together $32,600 to found the Garrison Engineering Corporation. Their sole focus: advancing the science of air conditioning and introducing indoor climate engineering to businesses worldwide.

Cooling the Movie Theaters
Garrison installs centrifugal chillers in the famous Rivoli Theatre in Times Square, New York. For the first time, theatergoers can escape the summer heat in perfect indoor comfort. "Summer film slumps" are eliminated, and cinema becomes a year-round entertainment staple.

Cooling the Capitol
